About

We (Bob, Corinne, Donna, Lincoln and Graham) all hold US passports but all have some African blood, the kids a much higher percentage than their parents.  I often think I should check African-American in the little box that asks for their race. They really are not truly American or for that matter truly African. How did we arrive at this mixed race status? I (Bob) was born and raised in Minnesota. Corinne was born and raised in Kansas. Two of our kids (Graham and Donna) were born in Nome Alaska and one (Lincoln) in Anchorage, Alaska.

When we were working in Alaska in 1996 we believed God wanted us to pursue working as missionaries overseas. The door began to open for us to leave Nome and with some reluctance and concern I resigned my position with the U.S. Pulbic Health Service to move to Kansas in July 1997. During the next year we visited churches and saw God provided the funds necessary to depart for Portugal in September of 1998.

We learned Portuguese in Portugal and arrived in the capital city of Mozambique in May of 2000. We experienced some unsettling time in Mozamabique when the national Mozambican church expelled our entire mission staff from the country. The Mozambican government had other ideas and registered our mission as a independent entity allowing us to move to the north to an area with a very minimal Christian witness. We moved to Cuamba in the Niassa province to prepare housing and work on other logistic issues for the arrival of the rest of our team. After our first four year term, (18 months Portugal, one year Maputo, one year Cuamba, and several months in transition) we were ready for a one year home assingment in the US by July 2002.

In July of 2003 we headed for a new area and new challenges in Marrupa, Mozambique working with the Makua-Meetto people. We competed a 4 and 1/2 year term there in December of 2007 and are now enjoyed rural life in western Kansas.
